I am posting after very long period of time so there is a great “probability” of getting the grammar wrong. You will know after reading why I quoted the word PROBABILITY.

So it is one fine Tuesday when I set out for the application of VISA at US Embassy. I was very anxious because I have heard the great history of refusals. But anxiety is the thing that helps me a lot so it wasn’t new to me.

I am splitting all the time spent at US Embassy into 4 sections

1. Security Check

2. Document Check

3. Finger Prints

4. Interview

The reason for splitting like this is that we have to stand in a separate line at different counter for above sections.

[Section -1 : Security Check]

Here we were standing in queue outside the Embassy. Here “We” means me and my 3 more friends. So thats a simple security check where You have to keep all your metallic belongings into a plastic box and they will pass your box through a X-Ray machine and will pass you through a metal detector. That was pretty simple. All that we have read in security regulations have been proven wrong because they were allowing all back packs, Purse and other things except electronic items through that room.

I was surprised and burst into laughter there when I saw same G4S officials there. The G4S provides the guards to our College too but the guards there were speaking quite good English. So that was the security check.

[Section-2 : Document Check]

Here document means the appointment letter, Confirmation Letter and HDFC Receipt. That was the only counter where an Indian Officer is sitting. I was confused whether I should be proud of this or ashamed of this because all the work of responsibility are taken care by US officials and this is kind off clerical job [checking receipts and all]. Anyways I passed this stage and directed towards another counter for the Finger Prints.

[Section-3: Finger Prints]

Now that was the first time I am going to face a US official. I wasn’t able to get a sight of officer sitting at counter allotted to me. But I saw a geeky looking girl on the other Finger Print Counter. Now that raised some hopes. After some time I got the glance of the officer and I was shocked. He was looking exactly like Vin Diesel.

When I reached the counter I gave my finger prints on that electronic device and saw at Vin Diesel. He was looking at me with very suspicious eyes and after a second gestured me to go. Now I was directed to waiting Area where I have to take the token number.

[Section-4: Interview]

A long wait was waiting for us there. My token number was C37. Now that waiting area was like a typical Railway Station First Class Waiting Room. A LED sign board was hanging above which was showing which token number should proceed to which counter.

That token guy, like a railway announcer, announcing after every 10-15 minutes that “All counters are on that side. Washrooms on this side. Only one person can use the washroom at one time. There is snack counter on outside those who want to have can have”. It was OK till 1 or 2 announcement but after that everytime he announces we burst into laughters.

There were 5 counters for interview. Now looking at previous history all of us wanted to be interviewed by a guy. Among 4 of us my token number was last and among A,B,C,D,E the priority of C was the lowest so I have to wait for a long. And finally the moment arrived my token number was called ” Token number C37 please proceed to counter number 11″. That raised my anxiety because nobody among us was called to that counter.

I went and stood there in the queue. Interview was going on for the person ahead of me.

The Interviewer was looking like a Nerdy Fellow with big glasses and very lean Physique. Typical Nerdy Fellow.

So for the person ahead of me last few lines of interview were

Nerdy Fellow : How much  is your work experience?

Guy : 1 – 1.5 years

Nerdy Fellow : Company ?

Guy : [mutters something . I didn't get it]

Nerdy Fellow : “Sorry! Your work experience is not enough to work in USA. Work for some more years in India”

At this point of time my anxiety turned into fear. Then the call came “Next Applicant Please”

Now he was in front of me. An Idol of Nerdy Evil.

He has taken my documents and started

Nerdy Fellow : Why do you want to go to USA?

Me : [pretty simple] It’s for a competition Sir.[ I don't know how "Sir" came out of my mouth ]

Nerdy Fellow : Oh Great! [ looking at the invitation letter] Why do you want to take part in that competition?

Me: [Now I have to cook something good] This competition is related to my field of research and thats why it will be a great opportunity.[ At least smile you Nerd]

Nerdy Fellow : [expressionless] Which University you are in?

Me: IIIT-Hyderabad [ Pride and honour ]

Nerdy Fellow : What stream you are studying There ?

Me: BTech in Electronics.

Nerdy Fellow : [ Wide Smile on his face for the first time. I was like PHEW!!!] May I see your University Marksheet ?

Me: Sure Sir .[ Again Pride and Honour ]

Nerdy Fellow : How do you feel about Probability ? [ Now he is laughing]

Me: [ He must have noticed the Only "C" there] Sir, I have no particular interest in that course. I have to do that as a part of curriculum.

[ He is still laughing and I felt like hitting him]

Nerdy Fellow: What do you want to do after completing your course?

Me:[ Now thats the question] I am thinking of doing PhD if I will get an opportunity[ Of-course I am lying ]

Nerdy Fellow: What is your Father’s Job ?

Me: He State Govt. Employee in the state of Madhya Pradesh [ Once more Pride and Honour ]

Nerdy Fellow: Designation?

Me: [When it's gonna end] He is Assistant Engineer in NVDA.

Nerdy Fellow : Congratulations !! Your application is approved you will receive your Passport with VISA within a week Thanks have a good day.

Me: [ You made my day] Thanks!! Sir!!.

That was all about my time at US embassy. We all got our applications approved. Now I am waiting for my Passport with much awaited US VISA in it.

The development is tremendous in all domains like trade, Education, Power etc. etc. So India is a fast developing country. She is increasing her approach in all directions.

But what is the significance of this day. We celebrate this day every year. Many of us attend flag hoisting ceremony very enthusiastically. Now I would like to talk about speeches given after flag hoisting ceremony.

In all this speeches we are listening same things for many years

- India is fastest growing economy

- India is 1st in something, 2nd largest in some other thing

- and many many statements which generally are same every year.

Then in the conclusion of speech they invite youth of India to safeguard and respect the independence we got by the efforts of some great men.

What does these speeches mean?

Is youth of India more oriented towards country ?

I saw the skit today morning in the ceremony. That lead me to a thought. Why there is so much difference in attitude of youth towards life if we compare youth during struggle of independence and youth of modern world ?

Then Director of our institute made it clear in his speech. In his opinion difference are in intentions. During Struggle of independence there was an intention in people’s mind that is to see India as a free country. Our rights, Our home etc etc.

And now there is no intention. The only intention now is to fulfill our needs. Very less percentage of population of India thinks welfare of India as there goal or Intention.

As today is independence day we should make a commitment of contribution towards India’s welfare. We should make welfare of country and its development as our prime intention.  If citizens will be committed towards welfare then no one can stop India from becoming free from various shackles like corruption, communalism etc.

When India will be free from these shackles, that day will be marked as total independence to India.

In case of citizens, When there will be complete sense of security, dignity and patriotism in each and every Indian ( with sense of respect for each fellow Indian ), that day will be marked as complete Independence

This time I came across another stupidity in this International ( Note the word) Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad. They have made it compulsory to complete 4 HSSM courses( I think all IIITians know the full form of this) in last 2 years of BTech for all students. Now what is the stupidity in that? As HSSM course is conducted by so called senior or reputed faculties of college they have put their own restrictions on the courses.

Some examples are

1) They want to have only 50 students . ( This is ridiculous. Each batch has atleast 150 student III + Iv year= 320 (approx) + MS +Mtech) and they have offered only 5 electives which totals to 250 students.What they suppose others will do. They want them to wait for one more year(after completion of BTech) to complete their HSSM requirements which will never help in near future.

2) They decide on the basis of screening test. Now what is ridiculous about it ? We have taken entrance examination for college.Now we have to compete for completing our so called HSSM requirements.(which are not at all required)

3) One of them tells :- ” please try to keep it as gender equitable as possible. That is,encourage upto 25 girls to register in a class of 50. This is necessary because some of the material used in the course relates to gender based perspectives.” Now I am asking one question from where they will bring 25 girls first of all ? and what will happen to some really interested guys who lost their chance for some “gender based perspectives” ?

I don’t know much about it i.e. how they set curriculum? Whose norms that follow ? etc. etc. etc.

But My opinion is that if they want each one of their IIITian to complete 4 HSSM electives Why the F*** they are putting restrictions to them ? They should allow each and everyone to take that course.

In one meeting Dean says ” Take 2 humanities course” . I say How the hell? If I got eliminated out of my 2 HSSM courses in last Semester who’s gonna take responsibility?

I don’t know why they give that much importance to Humanities. It should be treated as elective for interested i.e. there should be no criteria of completing 4 HSSM. If there is something like norm of AICTE then bring the faculty members who are mentally ready to take atleast 100 students ( I may say 150 but I pity on present conditions).

I saw 123 Registrations in a course called Statistical Methods in AI. These professors are not complaining. Then what is with these Humanities professors.?Are they not capable of taking 100 students? If not then they can’t be called professors . ( Our TAs are better than them).

THIS IS SIMPLY WRONG USE OF POSITION AND POWER.

STOP THIS IN IIIT-H and give chance to students who may face despair and depression in their last sem when their degree will be held in college only because of F****** Humanities courses.

Thats all I want to say.

I was very enthusiastic when I got admission in the college away from home . Nearly 1000 kms away . Full freedom no restriction and blah blah blah. I arrived at college new place, new friends, new life etc. All seemed too fascinating to me. I was on cloud 9 that this is a wonderful place I can do what I want.

YEAR -I

The year started. I was very happy to be a college student more than that I am a free person now. I feel no separation kind of thing towards home. I was just incredibly happy. I never called my mother. She calls me whenever she wanted to talk. I never cared to ask my parents for something. I tell them afterwards.

In short I was enjoying the new life. Feeling more mature etc.

I was a bit inclined to studies. Giving good result is something that comes from within me. So I kept good academic records in this year. Also I was involved in almost every activity of college. This was probably a initial surge of enthusiasm-born energy which was coming from within . I don’y want to say more about this year as nothing interesting happened in this year..

Year I passed like this.

YEAR II

This year came with more enjoyment because we are seniors so we can do everything freely. Make fun of Juniors and enjoy classes more because most of the time I was reading novels in class. All these habits like late night movies, Chatting etc. caught me very badly and I lost my track. I was a spoilt one and still thinking I am right. Spoilt my 3rd sem. But saved myself considerably by doing well in exams.

Now in 4th sem I did a thing which I admit now is a worst mistake of my life till now. I fell in love. Unknowingly I fell in a thing which is not my goal and lost track completely. I was doing everything keeping my love in my mind. That was a mistake and I want to forget that. First time ever I have given someone priority over my studies ( A tremendous mistake I already mentioned) 4th sem is also passing. At the fall of Sem 4 I started feeling a special sense of responsibility towards my parents. And when I thought thoroughly I reached to the conclusion I was breaching their trust very badly and will surely gonna hurt them in the near future. Then I realised that I have done mistake. I put down that girl ( I still feel bad about that ). Now the love for parents is at the full swing in my heart. The sense of separation is creeping in my heart more and more.

Now YEAR III has started and I am missing my parents , My home etc. Its a surprising transformation but a good one.

Living away from home is the most unlucky thing that many students have to do to fulfill their parents’ hopes. I want to see my parents happy and that is the only thing I want. So this small exile to IIIT-H is only for their happiness. I wish that I will get chance of spending my life after college with them. I don’t want Job outside India. And If I get job abroad then I wish that my economic conditions will be such that I can keep them with me. I wanna live with them.

Enough of separation. Just 3 more years then I will always live with them or keep them with me where ever I go.

Final Line..

Living Away From Home Worths only when you are fulfilling the dreams of those two persons who unconditionally love you and who have more hopes attached with you than any other person in this world.

I want to mention some really dazzling performers like

Praveen from Indore rocking drummer.

And our Mr. and Ms. Freshers

Shantanu Rai and Priyam Parashar

Both are wonderful actors and Priyam has a nice vocal Cord.

Everybody Of ug2k9 is rocking.

I wish this will continue For Upcoming year..

All ug2k8 guys have put their efforts ..

Finally Really UG2 rocks yaar..

We Came to IIIT -H with a honour in Our minds That We are The top 2500 students In AIEEE.

And we are studying in an Institue which takes only toppers of thE exam ..
We were very Happy.That We are the top class students from over India..

But what happened this year is somewhat ridiculous ..

The closing rank Of IIIT-H is some 11000.

And even the students with rank ~5000 got CSE here..

What Is This??

That mean Even A student with rank 5000 can study in one of the best College with top branch..

Everybody knows that Reputation Of college depends On standard of students..

The main problems will be:-

Can the students with lower ranks cope up with the hardcore curriculum and academics here??

Will there be any All rounder student In coming batches??

Will IIIT-H be able to maintain its educational standards??

Only Time Knows…

Let see what else is waiting to happen here..

I think They will start reservation quota also in coming years..

So I request to save IIIT – H..Otherwise IIIT-H will lose its identity Of uniqueness..

It will also become “Just an Engg college”
